The Spanish society has experienced a big change in the past few years and that change has to do with the large increase in immigration population. According to the Ministry of Work and Social Affairs, the number of students from non-Spanish speaking countries (European Union, rest of Europe, Africa and Asia) registered in the Spanish education system in the 2003-2004 academic year was 200,000, whereas in the 2004-2005 academic year that number increased to 230,000, not considering those students registered in the university system.
